Henry P. Porter

Henry Pierson Porter was born in Hamptonburg, New York in 1852 and passed away August 14, 1933, at the home of his son at the age of eighty years eleven months and fourteen days.

He came to Mazomanie with his parents when he was four years old and lived in a log cabin on the Howarth farm, now known as the Stupfel farm for four years, and then moved to the present Porter farm which has been his home all his life with the exception of eight that he lived in the village of Mazomanie.

He had four brothers, Wilson, Stephen, John, Wallace and two sisters Eliza and Sarah.

He was married to Mary Nancy Cairns on March 1, 1883. To this union two children were born, Mrs. Julia E. Dunlap and John V. Porter, both of Mazomanie.

His wife passed away December 5, 1919, and since that time he has made his home with his son. He is survived by his son John V. Porter and daughter, Mrs. Julia Dunlap, and one granddaughter, Bernice Dunlap.

The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Porter home.

Those from out of town were, Mrs. Clarence Steele and daughter Joan, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Korrison, James Mussen and Miss Anna Herr, from Lodi; Mrs. Alva Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Harmon, Mrs. Charles Sutcliffe, Mr. and Mrs. John Cairns, from Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cairns and family from Highland, Illinois; Mr. Alfred Cairns from Richland Center.
