Myra J. Smith

Myra J. Smith was born at Green. Oak, Mich. Dec. 1864. In the spring of 1882 he went with his parents to South Dakota as a pioneer of that State. Seven years later he married Effie Alice Martindal of Rose So. Dakota leaving shortly for Redding, Shasta Co California, where he remain for a period of two years, returning to South Dakota and settling at Groton, where he became a faithful and earnest member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Here he resided for fifteen years, raising and educating his children. From Groton he moved to Aberdeen SO. Dakota, where he resided until 1917, when he changed his dwelling place once more, this time for the Sunny South, locating at Jacksonville, Florida, where he continued at his trade, that of a carpenter assisting the United States in the construction of ships.. Here he resided until the time of his death which ocurred March 23rd 1919 in Boston, Mass, to which city he had gone the week previous on business. He leaves to mourn his loss an aged mother, Mrs. S. A,. Smith of this place, two brothers, Burton E. of. Aberdeen So. Dak. and Fred B., of Austin, Minn. three sisters Ethel L. B. Johnson and Minerva I. Barber of this place, and Fanny P. S. Perrin of Ferney, So. Dak. his immediate family consisting of his wife, Effie Alice Smith, two sons, Bennie Alva and Glen B., two daughters, Ina Bell and Evelyn Irene. The body arrived at this place, Thurday and the funeral was from the Edwin C. Johnson residence Friday at 10 O'clock A. M. the words of comfort being spoken by Rev. J. N. Davidson of Madison and interment being made at our sunny cemetary. The relatives present from out of town were the two sons of Jacksonville, Florida, Fred D. Smith and wife of Austin, Minn., Fanny P. S. Perrin of Forney, So. Dak. and Mrs. C. E. Schnackenberg of Madison Wisconsin.
