Mrs. Sarah A. Gage was born in 1837, Green Oak. Mich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis Gage. In 1893 her father and mother both died. On March 22, 1854 she was married to Henry Smith at Green Oak, Mich. To this union eight children were born, five of whom are living; Berton Smith, Mrs. E.C. Johnson, Fred B. Smith, Mrs. F.P.S. Perrin, Mrs. Minerva I Jenkins. Three Children preceeded her in death; Ida Mae at the age of 5 years, Myra J. at 7 years, Roy H. at 20 years.
In 1882, Mrs. Smith and husband and children moved to Milette, So. Dak., where she lost her husband in 1888. The following year Mrs. Smith moved with her children to California, from where after two years, she moved to So. Dak., where she lived for ten years before she moved to Black Earth in 1899, settling on a small farm south west of town. Seven years ago she moved to the small farm east of town where she passed away June 24, 1926. Her daughter. Minerva Jenkins has cared for her for about a year.
Funeral services were held from the home Saturday afternoon, Rev. Sodan officiating. Old neighbors act as pall-bearers; H. Kerr, A. Kerr, Cole Shackleton, John Peterson, Frank Turk, and Alva. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. John Ward, Mrs. B.W. Stuart and Jens Shamoe.
Guest from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith, of Ann Arbor, and children, Gertrude, Ethel, and Argetta of Winona, Minn., Harvey Smith and Mrs. Floyd Drake.
