"About two weeks ago Volney Jordan of this village, was taken with rheumatism from which he suffered severely for about a week; then he was taken with la grippe which terminated in pneumonia from which he died at 5 o'clock last Monday morning. The interment took place at the East Dayton cemetery Tuesday at 2 p.m. He was a young man of good moral principals and was highly respected by the people in general. He was born and reared to manhood in this neighborhoo, and with the exception of two years in Nebraska, had always resided here. He leaves a wife and four small children besides numberous other relatives to mourn his health. The bereaved family have the heart felt sympathy of this entire community in this their sad bereavement. The funeral services were to have taken place at the M.E. Church on Wed. at 11 a.m. but owing to the illness of Rev. J.S. Dinmore, of Monticello, who had been engaged to conduct, there were none."
