OUR HISTORY

Welcome to the newly formed Green County (Wisconsin) Genealogical Society. Our first meeting was held on April 7th, 2001 with twenty-five persons attending.

Meetings are held the first Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m. from September thru May on the upper level of the Monroe Public Library (925 - 16th Ave., Monroe, WI.).

We invite you to come to our meetings and bring your genealogical questions in hopes that someone can help you get past the proverbial brick wall.

Check local (Green County, WI.) newspapers for updated information or contact an officer.

MEMBERSHIP DUES:

Membership dues are $12.50 for those who those having the newsletter emailed to them.

If you would like to receive a hardcopy of the newsletter by U.S. Mail please remit an additional $5.50 to help us defray rising costs.

If more than one member lives at the same address, only one newsletter will be sent.

MISSION STATEMENT:

Although our mission will be more defined in the future, it will include:
  • copying cemeteries -- via walking them, old records, photographs;
  • reprinting old and/or out of print books;
  • courthouse extractions;
  • newspaper and census indexing.

    Hours: Tuesday and the 3rd Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month from 1 to 3 p.m.
    Other times available by appointment, call 608-325-2326

    NOTE: As of 03/13/13 there are periodic issues with the elevator. The hopes are to have it fixed by summer. Please call ahead if you must have elevator access to determine if it is a good or bad day for the elevator. Stairs still work.

    HELP WITH PROJECTS NEEDED
     
    GCGS is looking for people who would like to do some computer entry. You don't have to live near Monroe, WI.
    We have scrapbooks that are being indexed by hand and they need to be put into a database. If you are interested please contact Donna.
