Anyone interested in family history research involving the British Isles won’t want to miss the chance to sharpen their skills at BIGWILL’s all-day seminar on British genealogical research.
The scheduled lectures are:
- Irish Emigration in the 1880s
- England: Crossing the Divide (Civil Registrations and Census Returns)
- Migration within the British Isles
- British Isles Research (England, Ireland & Scotland)
- Concluding question-and-answer session
Registration begins at 8:15 a.m., with the program beginning at 8:45. The day’s activities are expected to conclude at 3:30. The advance registration fee is $30 (BIGWILL members) or $35 (non-members) for registrations
RECEIVED by 15 September. After that date the fee is $40 (for members and nonmembers alike). A box lunch is available for an additional $12.
A selection of British Isles-related genealogy books will be available for purchase throughout the event.
A small block of rooms is reserved for Friday evening at the Clock Tower Inn for attendees with special conference rates ($119 single/double/ triple/quad). Rates include four waterpark passes. The hotel has restaurants, lounges, indoor waterpark, indoor/outdoor whirlpools, game room, outdoor tennis, basketball & volleyball courts. A playground is also available, as is the racquet club and fitness center. The block will expire on 25 August; anyone interested in reserving lodging in conjunction with this conference should call the Clock Tower Inn at (815)398-6000 before then.
Some background on the seminar speaker:
Sherry Irvine is from British Columbia, Canada. She is a partner in the online teaching company, Pharos Teaching & Tutoring, Ltd. She has coordinated and taught on English & Scottish genealogy at Samford University’s Institute of Genealogy & Historical Research since 1997, and led BIGHR study tours. She has presented lectures throughout Canada, the USA, Australia, and New Zealand. Irvine has received many awards and is on the board for the International Society of British Genealogy & Family History.
