Babcock Fire

From the Necedah Republican, July 22, 1909, Page 5

The post office building owned by L. WARD, the LACEY Hotel, owned by Mrs. LACEY, the Pabst Saloon owned by the Pabst Brewing Company and the William ADAMS Saloon building owned by J. MCLAUGHLIN, were all destroyed by fire Saturday night at Babcock. Some of the inmates of the hotel escaped in their night clothes, leaving their valuables to be burned. Miss Mollie LACEY lost her purse with $85 in currency and a diamond ring. Not a thing was saved from the post office. All of the property was only partly covered by insurance. Only for a favorable change in the wind much more property would have been burned.
