| Kewaunee Press Apr 30, 1921 The town of Montpelier was organized at the first meeting of the County Board in
November, 1856. It was first settled by a group of New Englanders, largely from
Vermont who gave the town the name of the Capital of their native state. Ellisville
took it's name from Deacon L. W. Ellis, one of the pioneers. At the time Captain
Vaughan took the census, July 25, 1860, there were 41 families living in the town. 1860 Montpelier Census - Jul 25, 1860
