James BEATTIE, the father of Homer BEATTIE, the successful potato
grower of Langlade County [Wisconsin], was born in Clayton [Winnebago County],
Wisconsin, 14 September 1860, the son of James and Nancy (WINFIELD) BEATTIE.
He attended the public schools of Clayton in his boyhood days and later
entered the Neenah High School [Neenah, Winnebago County, Wisconsin].
Leaving high school, Mr. BEATTIE began in the agricultural field by working
on his mother's farm, his father [James, husband of Nancy] having died
when he was a boy. Mr. BEATTIE moved with his family to Antigo [Langlade
County], Wisconsin, in 1893, and has since spent his days in and about
this city.
He [James BEATTIE] was united in marriage on 03 March 1886 to Hattie
BABCOCK, to which union six children were born: Murray K. BEATTIE,
who married Ann HAGELSCHINE; Homer C. BEATTIE, who married, 20 July 1921,
Miss Catherine CULBERTSON of Antigo; Edna L. BEATTIE, now Mrs. Earl GEORGESON,
their marriage having occurred 08 June 1914; Lucius D. BEATTIE, who married
Miss Gertrude BROOKE; and Janet, a student, who resides with her parents.
One child, Ruth, is deceased. The James BEATTIE residence is at 217
Field Street, Antigo, Wisconsin. |
