E. J. BYRNE, prominent Antigo [Langlade County, Wisconsin] dairyman,
was born in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, 05 July 1888, the son of Hugh
and Margaret BYRNE. For the first thirteen years of his life he lived
in Manitowoc County, attending rural school there. In 1901 the BYRNE
family moved to Antigo. Here Mr. [E. J.] BYRNE engaged in the grocery
business for seven years, after which he inaugurated the Antigo Dairy,
a model institution of its kind. With him in the conduct of the Antigo
Dairy since 1915 has been Hugh BYRNE, a brother.
E. J. BYRNE was united in marriage on 15 June 1914 to Mary RILEY,
a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. RILEY, well-known Antigo citizens.
To the union of E. J. and Mary (RILEY) BYRNE one child, Robert, was born.
Mr. BYRNE is a member of Antigo Council No. 1002, Knights of Columbus,
of which order he is a fourth degree member. and he is a member of the
Fraternal Reserve Association. The BYRNE residence is at 217 Lincoln
Street. The family attends St. John's Catholic Church of Antigo.
[An article in the 19 June 1934 "Antigo Daily Journal" about the silver
anniversary of the ordination of Father SAILE, St. John the Evangelist
Church, mentions a Robert and an Ed BYRNE taking part in the procession.]
The BYRNE family is one that has long enjoyed the friendship and
high regard of the best people of the community, which has been their home
so many years, and they are in every detail worthy of the respected place
they occupy in popular esteem and confidence.
