Letter to Hannah McCarthy Brickley by Mary Gauthier August 13, 1895

The letter was written to my grandmother, Hannah McCarthy Brickley, who lived in New York City.
The return address was F.S. Gauthier in Keshena, Wisconsin. The date on the letter is August 13, 1895. The letter was from Mary Gauthier, my grandmother's "long lost cousin.":

     Dear Cousin,

I received your letter and was glad to hear from you.  My letter must have surprised you.  I am Mary your long lost cousin.  Our uncle left his farm in  Laney where he lived when I came up here and moved to Antigo.  He died three years last winter.  And my father died three  years ago the 4th day of last October.  My father died of cancer and uncle died of an abscess. . .  [Bottom of the page is broken.]

My aunt is still living and also my mother when last I heard from her.  Our uncle's youngest boy Willie died about two years
of quick consumption.  He was nineteen years old.  When I left New York you had four children living and two dead.......
When you write tell me the names of your children and if  Willie is still alive..  I lost my three oldest two boys and one girl and
I  have two boys living.  How is Mr. Brickley and how is Mike and how is Mr. and Mrs. McCarthy, Billy and Mary?  Give my love to all         and accept the same yourself.

From your cousin, Mrs. F.S. Gauthier   (Write soon.)
