I am looking for links to my grandmothers family. Josephine Benzinger was the daughter of Joseph Benzinger and Caroline Kuntz (Kunze or Kunz) both of Germany. Josephine was born on 7 October 1874 in Wisconsin. I found a family in Manitowoc Co Federal Census 1880 that appears to be the the same family. Josephine married a Mr. Boehn. Her second husband was Charles Danile Hannon my grandfather. They married in El Centro CA 1914. I have found several Kuntz families in Germans to America but to date have not made any firm ties. Can anyone help me?

I am searching for more detailed on all of the KOHLHOFF families in Wisconsin and around the country. I am currently living in Germany near Heidelberg while my husband is in the military. There are not a lot of families here with that name. My relatives came from Hinterpommern which is now a part of Poland. This past summer, I visited Barkhoff, now Barkowo Poland where my g-g-grand- father was born. There is no trace of any relatives there. The area has been resettled by Poles. The Potsdam Conference, in 1947, gave this land that was German to Poland. I am using the German CD Rom telephone directory to contact other KOHLHOFF families to see if we have common roots. In addition to KOHLHOFF families in Wisconsin, I have connected others in New York and South Dakota. I would like to hear from anyone who has any KOHLHOFF'S in their family tree. I would also like to hear from anyone doing research in the area of Germany/Poland that was once Pommerania. In addition to my maiden name, other names that I am working on are: ZASTROW ROLOFF BACKHAUS BACHAUS DITTBERNER MAASZ BLIESE KNUTH BUCHERT BUCHOLZ and also my husband's name DURKIN.

Andrew Bartelt Sat Jan 25 15:24:52 1997
In 1873, two of my great uncles, Frantz and Robert Bartelt, left the Stettin and/or the Kreis Kammin area of Pommern, Prussia in order to avoid being drafted into Kaiser Wilhelm's army.Their ages were 17 and 16. They left the Port of Bremen, Germany and arrived at the Port of Baltimore, Maryland, USA on Apr 18, 1873 aboard the steamship "Baltimore". They made their way to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and two years later their parents, Julius and Wilhelmine Bartelt, and their brothers and sisters, Bertha, Augusta, Karl, Wilhelm and Albert followed. Also accompanying them was a Christine Bartelt, age 68, whom I believe is the mother of my great-great grandfather, Julius. They arrived at the Port of Baltimore, Maryland on Apr 26, 1875 after leaving from the Port of Bremen, Germany. They also settled in Milwaukee with various family members spreading out to Medford, Taylor County, Wisconsin and Winona County, Minnesota. Some also went to Illinois. About the same time, other Bartelts from the same family line reportedly emigrated to South America. I am looking to establish contact with other genealogists or family lines in order to exchange information/family histories. I am also in contact with other BARTELT family line researchers who are also interested in furthering their genealogies. Interestingly, my great-great grandfather's wife Wilhelmine Bartelt was also a Bartelt. Her father's name was Christian Bartelt and her mother was Friedericke Stueber. Julius and Wilhelmine also had one son born in the US, Hugo Bartelt.

Re: Milwaukee County Hanover Hospital Dr. W.F. MALONE I have a framed picture of an extremly beautiful hospital. On the picture it says. Hanover Hospital Madison & Hanover Streets Milwaukee, Wis. The signature on the picture says, Clark Eng. Co. Mil. I'd say it was done in the late 1800's or early 1900's. There is what I believe to be a horse drawn Herse in front of the hospital. There is one building but, it is separated in to 3 sections. Each section has it's own characteristics. It is absolutly georgeous. The largest section says Hanover Hospital on the sign, The corner section says, Dr W.F. MALONE, and the 3rd section says, Nurses Home. It has 4 stories including a basement with above ground windows. If you know of anyone that would have knowlege of this building I am interested in learning more about the building and Dr. W.F. MALONE. My GGGrandfather, Thomas J DOWD married my GGGrandmother, Mary Jane MALONE in Waterford, Racine County, Wis.in 1866. Thank you for any assistance you might be able to provide. Becky Raine

My brother, Robert W. Haug of Elm Grove, and I are looking for the place of birth of our Grandfather, Ferdinand WITTIG. He was our mother's father. We believe that his birth date is 24 March 1841 and that he was brought to America about 1850 by his father, Johann Wittig, and mother, Amelia Frantz. They lived in Milwaukee and Ferdinand died there in 4 April 1912. To date the census, naturalization papers, obit, grave yard papers list his place of birth as Saxony, Germany. The town of his birth is what we urgently need. A trip to Germany is planned for April and if we can find the name of the town, then we can visit it and hopefully get his information as well as the generations back. Any help that can be given will be deeply appreciated. The E Mail address to use now is: bhaug@nut-n-but.net. My brother and I, Arthur J. Haug, are available at this address which is in Punta Gorda, FL. Thank you.

I was talking to a man one day a few days ago, and he told me the story of his maternal Grandparents. They divorced shortly after his mother's birth and she was never given the chance to meet her father. He is looking for a man by the name of Billie Frank Pinkerton who married a Shirley D. Auberger (b. 12/21/27 in WI) in or around 1948, most likely in Milwaukee Wisconsin. They had one child, and divorced shortly before or after the childs birth. Shirly soon remarried taking the name RAYMONT. When her SS# was searched the number gave a listing for a Shirley D. Rejment (Surely a mild listake). I tried looking for a place to search for a marriage certificate, but was unsuccessful.
On the childs birth certificate her father was listed as Billie Frank PINKERTON. He may go now by William, Bill, or Billy. At one time it is believed that he was a Texas Truck Driver. He was born between the years of 1926-1929.
On a final note a possible match has been found. A William Robert PINKERTON born 10 April 1929 in Waupaca, Waupaca County, WI. It looks like a possible match, however the different middle names causes me to look for more information before acting upon what I have about this man. Thank you for your time. If there is anything you can give me that may help me, such as links, addresses, anything at all, I would be very appreciative.

My two ancestors, Phillipp Bahr (b. 3 Sept 1831) and John Bahr (b. 18 Jul 1837), appeared on the Montgomery County, MO census as farmhands in 1860. Family lure says "they migrated with their parents from Germany in the 1850's and first 'stopped' in Milwaukee". Phillipp's naturalization record renounces allegiance to the "Duke of Baden". All other info I have after ten years of research is sketchy and conflicting. The name was spelled Bar, Baehr, etc. The names of parents are unknown. I am looking for any reference to the above or perchance death records of male and female Bahrs born in the 1790 - 1820 timeframe.

My mother's maiden name was Marianna Catherine (Zeller) Ewers. Her father was Albert Francis Zeller. My great-grandfather came from Germany through the city of Milwaukee. He came to Richland County, Wisconsin and bought a farm, married and raised four children. My grandfather Albert Zeller being the oldest.
I am looking for my great-grandfather Joseph Zeller. He came to the city of Milwaukee in approx the year 1884 from Wurttemberg, Germany. Other alternative spellings for surname: Zellar, Zallar, Sellers, Sellars. I think he came to the Milwaukee harbor straight from Germany. Are there ship records somewhere to check this?

Would appreciate any information or hearing from any relatives of these two.
