Cemetery Restorations - Repair Kit
Ralph Hendersin strongly recommends that volunteers deciding to undertake
some of this work make a repair kit.
His standard kit is listed below:
--Epoxy (to permanently attach pieces of stone to each other)
--Wax paper (to keep epoxy from sticking splints to stone)
--Duct tape (to keep mortar or grout from unintended areas)
--4 splints (for holding broken tabletstones in place while epoxy sets)
--4 clamps (for holding splints to broken tabletstones while epoxy sets)
--2 bipod stands (to hold stone upright, if necessary, while epoxy or
mortar sets)
--Level (for leveling bases and plumbing upright stones)
--Portland cement (for making mortar or grout)
--Sand (for making mortar or grout)
--White grout (for adjusting mortar or grout color to match stone color)
--Brown grout (for adjusting mortar or grout color to match stone color)
--Margarine containers (for mixing epoxy, mortar or grout)
--Tablespoon measure (for measuring cement and sand in mortar or grout
mix)
--Wood paddles (stir sticks for mixing epoxy, mortar or grout)
--Small sponge (for cleaning grout or mortar from unwanted areas)
