The Sparta News Index is maintained by the Monroe County Local History Museum and Research Room

This database contains thousands of news items indexed from the Sparta Herald (SH) and Monroe County Democrat (MCD) newspapers. Both newspapers cover the Sparta, WI area in Monroe County. The project began by indexing birth, death, and marriage notices only, but now include other news items about individuals, families, businesses, disasters, etc. The majority of entries date from 1867-1909, but indexing this newspaper is an ongoing project.
