NOTE: HOW TO GET THE FOLLOWING RECORDS
To write for copies of vital records from the Register of Deeds office, the
following information is required with a self-addressed #10 envelope:
Name of person on the record
Date of event (birth or death) within a 10 year search span
Place of event
Mother's maiden name
Father's name
Name of groom Maiden/current name of bride (after 1907 the index is listed
only under the groom)
Date of event
Place of event
Those requesting copies must sign the letter and state their relationship
(if they are the parent, child, sibling or grandparent) to the person on
the record. Certified copies can only be given to immediate family members
(parents, children, siblings and grandparents). Genealogy copies are
non-certified and the copy will have that statement stated across the
record.
Copies of birth records are $12.00 each and $2.00 for each additional
copy of the same record.
Copies of marriage and death records are $7.00 each and $2.00 for each
additional copy of the same record.
Generally copies are out within a couple days.
Land records searches can be a very time consuming project as our indexes
are not on computer. We have to search the old hand written indexes which
are in chronological order under the letter of the alphabet. It is very helpful
if they have the land description since we can than search the tract index.
The family of [Joan P. Sherburn]
has been traced back to the 1700's in Prussia. They homestead this
area in the 1860's. Some of her ancestors helped to build the railroad tunnels between
Sparta and Elroy. Email [Joan P. Sherburn]
for further assistance.
