Monroe County is located in the southwest of the state of Wisconsin. It's neighbors are [Jackson] to the north, [Vernon] to the south, [Juneau] to the east, and [LaCrosse] to the west.

The county seat is Sparta, in the town of Sparta. The county was formed March 24, 1854 from LaCrosse County. The earliest registration dates are Birth 1877, Marriage 1856, and Death 1876.
