.(note: Amazingly, Mr. A. J. Bakeman was 8 years old when he and his parents, Henry and Mary Bakeman, brothers John, Henry, August, Martin and baby sister Emily survived the Great Peshtigo Fire of October 8, 1871 on their homestead in town of Peshtigo by taking refuge in the pit water well on the farm and covering themselves with wet blankets as the fire roared over them. His grandfather Crist Bakeman, also a fire survivor at another homestead, and his father Henry were born in Mechlinburg (also Mecklenberg), now part of Germany, His mother Mary was born in Darmstadt, now also a part of Germany.
