Donald E. DeHut, 91, Oconto passed away on Father's Day, Sunday, June 20.

Born Dec. 4, 1918 in Little River, Oconto Countgy to the late John and Louise (Cota) DeHut, he was the 2nd youngest of 13 children. Into adulthood he remained on the DeHut homestead and later married Jean L. Mayo on Jan. 2, 1954. She preceded him in death on Jan. 20, 2000.

The couple raised a family of six children while managing a 190 acre dairy farm. He was known for his strong Christian faith, fine wood craftsmanship, ingenuity in mechanical design, gardening and musical abilities. He learned to play the harmonica from his mother at the age of 12 and from that time on developed musical talents all by ear. Including the harmonica, he played the guitar, accordion, violin and jaw harp.

His children survive. They are Jody DeHut, Jayme (Barb) DeHut, Cindy (Michael) Bittner, Timothy (Cynde) DeHut, Lisa (Richard) Dwoark and Jenny (Kenneth) Knipfer. He is further survived by 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three sisters, Mabel Helmer, Mary Sief and Eleanor (Joe) Mraz.

Along with his parents and his wife, Jean, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Lyle, George, Harry, Ray, Roy and four sisters, Irene Ragen, Muriel Olson, Ruby Lasley and Louise Scharmann.

The family received relatives and friends at the Oconto Gospel Chapel from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral services at noon on Wednesday, June 23. Rev. Kevin Kuhn officiated and burial was at the Oconto Catholic Cemetery. Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto assisted the family.
