Mrs. Johnson Dead

Mrs. Guennell Johnson, an old and highly respected resident of this city, passed away at her home in the South ward at 10:00 last Friday morning, of old age and general debility, aged 81 years.

Her death was a great shock to her family as she had been as well as usual until the day preceding her demise, and even that day did not appear to be in serious condition. The morning of her death, she ate a good breakfast and about twenty minutes before she died asked for a drink. Her taking away came very peacefully and without a struggle.

Deceased whose maiden name was Guennell Thompson, was born in Shein, Norway, October 3, 1826, and came to this country when twenty-four years old and settled in Manitowoc. That same year she was married to Andrew Johnson and they resided in Manitowoc until about thirty years ago when they came to Oconto and lived here the remainder of their lives, her husband having preceded her in June, 1881.

Deceased is survived by four sons, Charles, Oscar and Albert of Oconto Falls, and George, who is at home, and three daughters, Mrs. Charles Aarseth, of Oak Park, Ill; Miss Anna and Mrs. Claude Menkee, of this city, two brothers, Thomas Thompson of Clark Mills, Wis. and Fost Thompson, of Fairchild, Wis. and two sisters, Mrs. Stephan Forrison of Manitowoc, and Mrs. Carrie Thompson of Mishicot.

Deceased made many friends during her residence here and won the respect of all her acquaintances by her upright, womanly life, whose sympathy goes out of the bereaved family.

The funeral was held at 2:30 Monday afternoon from the home, her sons acting as pallbearers and Rev. R.J. McLandress officiating, with internment in evergreen cemetery.

Those present from out of the city who were in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Aarseth of Oak Park, Ill; and Thomas Thompson of Clark Mills, Charles Thompson, a nephew of the deceased, was misinformed in regard to the time of the funeral did not reach here until last evening.
