 John E. HENKEL, age 45 of 128 S. Birch Ave., Gillett, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 1994, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on March 4, 1948, at Shawano, to Mildred (HELMKE) and the late Rudolf  HENKEL. He served with the United States Army from 1967 to 1970 and was a Vietnam veteran. He married Barbara BOERGER on Jan. 23, 1971, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Pulcifer. He was a life time resident of Gillett and worked for Mirro Aluminum for 101/2 years. He also worked for Friday Canning, Gillett, Phoenix Manufacturing, Shawano, and Graetz Manufacturing, Pound. He enjoyed going to the cabin and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Pulcifer, and a member of the Board of Education. He belonged to the Gillett Fire Department for 18 years and was a member of the Gillett Rescue Squad, the Gillett Jaycees and the Legion Post #300 of Gillett.
He was survived by his wife, Barbara; one son , Daniel, at home; one daughter, Donna, at home; a step daughter, Ann Olson, Hayward; four step grandchildren; his mother Mildred HENKEL, Gillett; two brothers, George, Neenah, and James, Gillett; and five nephews, Blaine, Larry, Kenton, Terrell, and Spencer.
 Funeral services will be held at 11 am. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 1994, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Pulcifer, with the Rev. Tom Paul WILLADSEN officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery with graveside rites by Legion Post #300 of Gillett. Friends may call at the Wendt Funeral Home, Bonduel, from 4-9 p.m. on Friday and at the church on Saturday from 9a.m. until time of services.
