Edward J. Slempkes, 80, Lena, went to his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 18, 2012. He was born June 12, 1931, in Maywood, Ill. to the late John and Clara (Cota) Slempkes Sr.. On Jan. 29, 1955, Edward married Mary Bourassa at St. Peters Catholic Church, Oconto. He owned and operated his own dairy farm and Slempkes Logging Co. in Lena, for many years. He was in the United Staes Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Lena American Legion Post #342. Edward was a very family orientated man and lived his life for his family.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years Mary; five children, Linda (Tom) Blazek, Suring; Cindy (Mike) Trepanier, Oconto; Daniel (Joan) Slempkes, Lena; David (Karen) Slempkes, Lena; Julie (Jon) Bostedt, Oconto; 19 grandchildren, Amber (Jim) Kuchenbecker Jr., Travis (Krista) Blazek, Brett Blazek, Eric (Sara) Trepanier, Sarah Trepanier, Adam (Ginger) Trepanier, Luke (Jill) Trepanier, Laura Trepanier and special friend, Justin, Alaina (Keith) Slempkes-Harris, Drew Slempkes, Megan (Phil) Slempkes-Brace, Brittany Sergott, Sharayah (Jordan) Preman, Alec Slempkes, Marisa Slempkes, Kendra Slempkes, Bryce Bostedt, Brady Bostedt, and Brea Bostedt; 10 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Haylee, Trent, Brayden, Owen, Sophie, Rocky, Layla, Isla, and Cecelia; one brother, John (Marie) Slempkes Jr., Lena; two sisters, Elaine (Jim) Carrick, Green Bay; Dorothy Hays, Oconomowoc; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Friends may call at Hillside Assembly of God Church, HWY 22, Gillett, from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Funeral Service 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the church with the Rev. Paul Carlson officiating. Burial will be 9 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Cemetery, Pound, with the Lena American Legion Post #342 performing Military Rites. Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, Lena, is assisting the family.
