Old Resident of Town of Preble Passes Away
Death Removes William Hardwig (Hertwig), a Veteran of the Civil War
Expires at the Age of 78
 Demise Resulting from General Debility, After Long Illness-Resident of Brown County Half a Century

William Hardwig
(Hertwig), a resident of Brown country for half a century and a veteran of the civil war, died at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of his son, William, Jr., in the town of Preble. The deceased was 78 years old and his death resulted from general debility, after an illness of nearly two years.

Mr. Hardwig
(Hertwig) was a resident of Preble for about 40 years. Previous to that time he spent about 10 years of his life in this city.

Three sons and two daughters survive him. With the exception of the son with whom he made his home the children are residents of other places. They have been notified of his death and until their arrival the time of the funeral will not be set definitely, but it probably will be held Thursday morning with burial at Wequiock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given.

Obituary - Magnus Hertwig, son of William Henry Hertwig

Green Bay, Oconto Falls,

Magnus Hertwig, 86 retired businessman died suddenly at his home here Tuesday afternoon following a stroke. Last week he froze his hands while trying to open a fuel barrel to drain some water out. His hands were both blistered and had not healed and it is believed the shock caused him to suffer the stroke.

Mr. Hertwig was born in Green Bay on September 20, 1862, and on August 4, 1890 he was married in Green Bay to Miss Bertha Erdman. Justice of the Peace Killian performed the ceremony. After they were married they moved to a farm in the town of Spruce where they lived until 1906, at which time they came to this city where up to the time he retired in 1939, Mr. Hertwig operated a tavern.

They were the parents of seven children. Besides his wife he is survived by three children, two sons, Leonard of Gillett and Raymond of Oconto Falls; one daughter, Mrs. Ella Bigelow of the town of Stiles. There are also 20 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. A sister Mrs. Christ Marks lives at Little Suamico. A grandson, Cpt. Lee Hertwig is in the Air Corps at Panama City, FL. There are several nieces and nephews.

The body will remian at the o'Neill Funeral home until Fay afternoon when services will be held at 1:30 with the Rev. Hugo Schmidt of Grace Lutheran church officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery here.
