Trying to locate
the above family for our Jurgens tree. Fred & Charlotte had a
family farm in Brazeau Township sometime after 1877, I believe, later
taken over by son, August. Other family members would
include Henry,
Etta (Swanson), Annie, Fred & Minnie. Last census is 1930
showing August, Frederick, Fred & sons Walter & Albert,
Etta Swanson and kids Caroline & Donald. Leads from anyone
would
be greatly
appreciated.

I am maternal
GGranddaughter to Edesse Martin dit Pellant, aka Edesse Pellant. She is
daughter of Josephte Daigneau and Francois Xavier Martin dit Pellant,
aka Francis Pellant. This family was living in
Oconto Co. in
1871. I was sent information from JR Pelland, (Pelland family
researcher) stating that there was a baptismal certificate issued for
"Caroline Victoria Hill, baptized March 18th, 1872, born
March 10th,
daughter of John Hill and Edesse Pellant" I then find Edesse married,
(only 6 years later), to my biological GGrandfather Hormidas ( aka
Pete) Beaupre on Aug. 18, 1878 at St. Louis Catholic
Church in Fond du
Lac, Wis. This would have been her second marriage. My problem is that,
not only can I not find any information on Edesse's marriage to John
Hill, I find no child being brought in to this
second marriage
and I can find no divorce papers from John Hill or death certificates
for John Hill or their daughter Caroline Victoria. I can't tell you how
long I've been working on this. Is there someone who
can give me some
insight on this? Thank you in advance.. Cheryl

My father,
Charles E. Johnson, was born in Breed March 2, 1902 to John Erick

Margaret had
several children after marrying and settling down in Breed--a daughter
Ruth was born in 1900 and died at about one month of age; another
daughter, Mildred who was born in 1903; and a son
Earl, who was

he lies where the "Little Oconto", near South Branch, joins the Oconto

I am related to
Wilhemina (Matheson) Grignon. Robert lived with my grandparents in WI
for several years when he was older. One of his sons took him to his
home just before he died. I believe that the
Grignon children
lived in Michigan in the Detroit area. The Funeral Home in Suring WI
used to be the Soleck Funeral Home might have some information..or else
St Michael's Church in Suring. There might
be a place of
death. Susan.

Joseph Helmke Click here to view ONLY this message

We plan to visit
Oconto County Friday Aug,17 and Sat. the 18th. I appreciate very much
the information you sent about my great great great uncle Joachim aka
Joseph Helmke. A distant relative and life long
resident of
Gillett, GEorge Henkel, tells me that in his childhood the uniform and
full regalia (including sword) of Joseph Helmke was on display in the
Oconto County Historical Museum. Is it still there? The
Veterans Museum
in Madison has no record of Joseph Helmke's CivilWar service. The only
record they could find was of a Joseph Helenkey of Stiles Wisconsin.
The information you sent me indicates there
were alternate
spellings to his name at that time. We were aware of Helmki Helmky and
Helmkey but never Helemkey. The Helemkey service was listed as
beginning 9/64 and ending 8/65. The Oconto
History of
Gillett states that Joseph Helmke and Charles McKenzier left for
service in 1862 and returned in 1865. Helenkey served in Co F 44th
Wisconsin Infantry. maryellenzippel@comcast.net states that
Joseph Helmke
arrived from Maglenberg (Mecklenburg?) Germany in 1856 and in 1861
after the death of his wife and three children enlisted in the 32nd
Division, The River Drivers. The Helmke brothers
came from
Mechlinburg province of northern Germany (town of Schwerin, I believe).
In your message you said you planned to set up a web site for Joseph
Helmke, would like me to be the contact person
and would send me
word when it was ready to go. Any progress on that?

On or visit to
Gillett and Oconto we were shown the paper submitted for pension
apparently when Joseph turned 65 (1900) From that we learn that he was
illiterate at least in English and signed with his
mark, an X. His
wife also signed the same. The hand writing for all the information
including his "signature" (not his mark) were identical. The
information given agrees with that at the Veteran's Museum under
Joseph Helenkey
of Stiles. With neither spouse able to proof read what was written it
is reasonable to assume that the family lore stands unchallenged by
this unfortunate and confusing information at the VM.

Am trying to find
out any information on my great-uncle. He was: TSG Leslie C. McAllan.
He was killed in action in WWII, (that much I know). I found something
somewhere that listed his date of death as
27 July 1945, but
the european war was over as germany had surrendered by then, and as (I
think) he was crew on a bomber, they wouldn't have been flying bombing
missions anymore. Two sited I found
listed him as
"KIA" so.....

Emma Nickerson
born about 1873 and Arilla Nickerson born about 1875. They grew up in
Oconto, Oconto Co., Wis. Where and who did they marry? When and where
did they die? Did they have any
children? The
parents were Jane and Orson Nickerson of Oconto. Last I know of them is
from the 1880 census. I would like to have the Oconto 1895 census for
Orson Nickerson, which I can't find but I
know they were
living in Oconto, maybe with his brother? Any one with ANY information
about the Nickerson sisters or the 1895 census would be greatly
appreciated.

Duquaine family, Oconto Falls Click here to view ONLY this message

Looking for
anyone else who might have this family surname in their background. My
g-grandmother was Emilie Duquaine, b. 22 Feb 1871 in WI, died 15 June
1899, Oconto Falls. I think her father was
Pierre Duquaine,
of Green Bay, Brown, but then again, it looks like there was a brother
Pierre. Emilie married Charles VonSecoulendt 2 May 1888, according to
family records. Just wondering if anyone else
has info on the
Duquaines? Mary Ann Root Kalamazoo, MI

different spellings of the name ie: Deneau and Daneau. Any info would

Frechette-Oconto-Question Click here to view ONLY this message

to this message
Sophie La Brosse
was married to John Frechette and they lived on McDonald St. in Oconto
next to the railroad tracks. They had children, Paul A, Nora, Harry
Michael and Pearl. Those four I am positive
about. Now
another name pops up as one of their children and that would be Lloyd
Raymond Frechette. He graduated Oconto High in 1915. The 1900 census
states he is two years old and living with John
& Sophie.
Paul A does not appear on the census but his birth date was 1-10-1898
which would of also made him two. I can not locate any birth
information for Lloyd. Would anybody know if Lloyd and
Paul were
twins????

I am doing
reserach for a John Sinai Frechette. He was born, where abouts unknown
in 1889. He moved to Michigan at some point where he died in 1974 on
Drummond Island. The real kicker is that there
is a name change
to John Sinai King. No other information is known except that he had a
daughter who later married to Prusak. It is also known that he was half
native American. Any info would be great.

Looking for
information on Abel and Leah Conners who were listed in the 1880 census
for Oconto,Wi. Both were listed as born in New Brunswick, Canada. On

Campbellton,
NB.Canada to my G Grandmother, Ellen Connors.. It says that "Abel(or
Alec) Connors had come home from Oconto to visit his parents, Thomas
and Elizabeth (Nelson) Connors. Aunt
Elizabeth had got
badly hurt by a bull. In a month after Abel went back to Oconto, she
received a telegram that Abel had died from scarlet fever. His wife had
had twins 3 months before he died. In checking
the birth records
I see that Elizabeth M. and Mabel E. Conners were born June 6, 1880 and
that Abel Connors had died Sept. 4, 1880. Wondering if this would be
his twin daughters? Also If anyone knows
who they married

I'm looking for

home was built, I
understand it was a deer preserve. I understand J.M. Ankerson built the
home where he lived with his nephew Emery Ansorge. Emery lived there
until the late 40's or 50's. The home was
then owned by the
Richert family until the mid 70's. It was owned by two other families
before the Rademann's bought it in 1979 and own it still. Any pictures
from the time it was built until 1979 would be
appreciated. We
are guessing the home was built around 1904 but have no proof. If
anyone knows the year it was in fact built please share that
information with us. Thank you. Linda Rademann, Gillett

Pensaukee Church Click here to view ONLY this message

In researching
the village of Pensaukee area we are currently left with one main
unanswered questions. There are a few others, but this is the one
causing the biggest problem. The other items are minor at this
point. There were
two churchs. One Christus Lutheran circa 1877-1929 and Grace circa
circa 1893 to 1936. A 1920 plat for the area shows both churchs. One
located west of the school house on the SS
towards then
highway 41. The other located on what is now Wood Road, which still
exists as a private home. We are still attempting to identify which was
Grace and which was Christus. Can you help? Your
help would be
appreciated. Gloria

Is there any way
to get information on St. Mark's Charity Home out of Green Bay? My
g-grandfather Henry Toole is listed on the 1880 census for Oconto as
being adopted by Abram Lowell and I was
trying to get
more information as to what happened to Henry's parents (Joseph Toole
& Elizabeth Bell). I have found info on both but they are
listed as having no children. If you have any information - please
let me know.
Thank you!

There used to be
a Stengel's Grocery Store in Suring, WI which is a short distance from
Breed. Maybe try their library? Good luck.

FYI, my family
name is Washkow but was Warchkow until my grandfather changed it
sometime around 1930 (guess). My father now deceased understood the
family name to be Russian I have since
understood it to
be Polish/German. Long story short my father grew up in Oconto Falls
so, his fathers name was Robert Warchkow, then changed to Washkow. You
may check under Washkow also. Best
Regards Matt
Washkow

My great
grandfather was Henry Begolke 9/17/1876-1/3/1952), who was married to
Irena Wilson (10/30/1881-6/28/1953).I have the Wilson family history,
but having a hard time tracing the Begolke info.
They were from
the Underhill area. I've found some records of what I beleive are his
brothers and sisters (through Immanuel Lutheran Church-Gillette, and
old Mosling Church), but unsure of his parents
name, where they
were from etc. Any help????? I've spent many years in the Underhill
area-My aunt was Irene Riegert.
