SACRED HEART of JESUS CEMETERY

The
old Sacred Heart Cemetery is on the east side of North Porcupine Lake
Road,
just south of Arndt Road. It is well maintained,
sitting
back quite a way west from the road frontage along a dirt entry road
and
is surrounded by a chain fence.
A
park bench and well water hand pump welcomes you at the entrance.
As
with many early cemeteries, stillborn and infants who died before being
baptized
were
buried along the fence, mostly at the back of the cemetery.
These
graves were dug by the family and generally not marked or recorded,
so
the infant's family and place of burial are often not known.

The
cemetery is affiliated with the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic
Church
which
is just south of the cemetery
on
the east side of North Porcupine Road.
The
church is now named Holy Family Church.
