.DUDY.
Jack Smith

I am looking for information on my grandfather, Arthur Wilhelm Dudy, born April 9 1886 in Little Suamico, Oconto Co. Wisconsin. I would like to add that my grandfather (Art) was a master builder. He lived the last ten years of his life with our family in Calistoga, Napa Co. Ca. He was one of my best friends.

Dudy Family information:

Gottfried F. Wilhelm Dudy, known as Wilhelm, came to the United States at the age of 32 in 1872 from Germany.  After settling in Wisconsin that same year, he married Ida Wilhemina Hass on August 4, 1872. Ida was born in Germany on February 15, 1847 and was age 25 at the time of her wedding in Oconto County, Wisconsin. Ida had traveled with her parents Carl Friederich Hass and Johanna Wilhelmina Caroline Kammhols to settle in Little Suamico, Oconto County, Wisconsin. Ida's mother, Johanna Kammhols, had been born in the city of Pommer, Oberfranken, in the country of Bayern (now Bavaria, and part of Germany) November 30, 1820 and had died February 6, 1913, in little Suamico. Ida's maternal grandparents were Erdman Kammhols and Elizabeth Juka.

Wilhelm and Ida Dudy bought a farm in Little Suamico, where all their children were born. A daughter, Anna, was first born, followed by Herman in 1875. Other children included daughters Martha born in 1877 and Ella born 1879. These two daughters both died young, in July, 1881, on the 26th and 11th respectively, so they were not on the 1887 family photograph (see below). The family photograph also shows Wilhelmina, born in 1881. Noreen was born Jan, 1883. Walter was next in October, 1884.  Arthur, born April 9, 1886, is shown as a child of less than 2 years old on the same photograph, and is the youngest.

Mother Ida Kammhols Dudy passed away at age 51 on March 8, 1889 and was buried in the cemetery at Little Suamico with her two young daughters. By 1900 Wilhelm was living on the family farm with his three youngest children, Arthur, Noreen and Walter. Noreen was working as a servant and the sons were farm laborers.  Wilhelm followed Ida at age 68, passing March 13, 1909. Son Herman married on January 10, 1903, and was living in Little Suamico in 1910.  At the age of 57, he passed away, February 18, 1932. His wife, Anna C. Kuntze,  followed at the age of  81, January 15, 1859. They are also buried in Little Suamico Cemetery.
