Euphrosine LaPOINTE
Words by the Barrette family that Euphrosine, a daughter of Pierre
LaPOINTE,
married Augustine BUISSON in 1831. They had a daughter, Julia, and it
seems
as though they lived around Galena, Ill. This Julia must havae been
born
about 1833 or 1834. Well, as the story goes, they wanted to move to the
prairies where Harper's Ferry, Iowa, is today. It was in the early
spring
of the year, and the ice was still on the river. When the mother,
Euphrosine,
was taken sick with small pox, they sent word ahead, as they had kins
living
at Harper's, or should we say Windfield, about Euphrosine's condition,
but being anxious to have them come, the kins promised to have the
place
warm and they arranged to go anyway, so they wrapped Euphrosine in a
feather
tick, packed her and the family in a sleigh and the long slow journey
started
up the river. After about two days they came to the place, Euphrosine
was
put to bed, but the place was too cold and damp, she died just a few
days
later leaving little Julie, who was only a few months old. Her aunt,
Mary
LAPOINTE LUPIEN do doubt took her and cared for her, and that is
perhaps
how she got the name LUPIEN, LEPINE or just Julia PINE. Her father,
Augustine,
must have been a very good man, he died February 25, 1847. He left a
will
filed in Probate Court of Prairie du Chien, Wis., leaving what he had
to
his beloved daughter Julie, and appointed Theadore CHENVIERE as her
guardian,
it was a very beautiful will. Julie was not baptized as Julia, but
Marie.
(Editor's note) Theadore
LUPIEN first married Margaaret PROVOST and had
two children: Adolph born 1840 and Theresa born 1842. His second
marriage
was to Mary LaPOINTE and they had at least two children, Xavier born in
1845, and Theotiste Margaret.
