FAMILIES and BIOGRAPHIES

Nels Johnson was born in Denmark on February 6, 1860 , passing away in 1953, and came to this country on his 20th birthday, settling in the town of How, Oconto County. To begin with, he had nothing more than an axe with which to begin farming. He cleared a piece of land, and a year or so later aquired a team of oxen, and still later, horses.

All in all, Mr. Johnson farmed and logged for more than 55 years in Oconto county, where he also served for many years as a director of the bank at Suring. His wife, Hansena Golterman, preceded him in death in 1946.

In the Johnson family were six boys, Frank, Walter,  Elmer,  Jim, , and Archie. The daughters were, Ann, Mrs. Tamble; Hilda, Mrs. Ed Zingler ; and Hannah, Mrs. William Fonfarek . There were also 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren at the time of Mr. Johnson's death.
 

The original photo of the Mary Johnson-Jonas Hamberg wedding of 1903 (in Breed, Oconto County) which features all of the guests of the wedding (there appear to be two Breed family relatives in the photo also.)	1895 photograph of the house of Nels and Hansena (Sena) Johnson in Breed, WI.  The children of Nels and Sena are Frank, James, Anne, Walter, Elmer, Hilda, Frederick, Hannah and Archie.	This is an Oconto Co. logging photo dated 1907. The photo is described as "Jim's logging 1907". Jim is James Johnson, son of Nels Johnson. The logs are marked  "STAR  4566".
This is a photo of the John P. Johnson family taken abt. 1889 in Breed, WI, from left to right:  Mary Johnson, Mary Cecila Johnson, John P. Johnson, Adelbert Johnson.	This is a photo taken in front of the schoolhouse in Breed.  The schoolteacher is Cora Raymond.  A few of the children are Johnson and Breed children.  The girl marked with an X is Mary Johnson	This photo was taken at Breed Union Cemetery abt. 1911.  From left to right: Mary Johnson, John Hamberg, Mary Hamberg, Mrs. Frank Dowen, Mrs. Arthur Breed, seated: Leona Tate.
