Mrs. William Marx (sic - should be Marks)

Death Claims Young Mother After an Illness of Two Years

Mrs. William Marx (Marks), who was operated upon at the City Hospital a short time ago, passed to the great beyond last Saturday, ages 32 years and eleven months. The desceased, whose maiden name was Emma Zarbach, was born in Posen, Germany, January 20, 1890. She came with her parents to this country and settled in Oconto Falls, in 1911, and a few years later married to husband who survives her. ( note: The ships manifest for 1912 [see image above] has Emma listed as the wife of William Marks along with daughter Martha, which indicates that she actually immigrated with her husband after marriage in Germany, rather than with her parents before her marriage as stated in her obituary. Sometimes family history is confused after time.)

The desceased had been suffering from a female trouble that had afflicted her for two years, and the ailment had so developed that it was deemed only a surgical operation would save her life, and that was considered uncertain. But as it was the only chance she cheerfully submitted, and one of her limbs was amputated just below the thigh. The disease, however, had progressed too far, and death was inevitable.

The desceased is survived by five children: Martha, Helen, Ewald, Edward and Harold. She was buried Tuesday in Woodlawn Cemetery, the religious services being conducted at St. Jacob's Lutheran church by the pastor, Rev, H. Srugies.

Many friends who highly esteemed the desceased lady deeply mourn her death
