Oconto County
Wisconsin
MOSLING
town of Underhill
Mosling
was originally named after the
Mosling family who immigrated from Isle of Wight, at the south tip of
England, first settling along the Oconto County shore of Green Bay on
Lake Michigan. They brought with them centuries of commercial fishing
skills. The next generation of the Mosling family migrated to western
Oconto County where they developed homesteads in the wilderness. A
settlement that once consisted of a stage stop, general store run by
Joseph Holl, blacksmith, livery, sawmill, and other shops and
businesses grew up there and was named for the founding family of
Mosling.
In the later 1800's families from Hillsland, Sweden immigrated to
America settling into farming and other businesses in the Mosling area.
