Wisconsin WHEELER and town of WHEELER (past)This name will be found in early documents of the area. The village was near Wheeler Lake, northeast of Lakewood on County "F". It no longer officially exists and is now in the town of Lakewood. Information furnished by Theresea The name is said to have belonged to very early surveyor, Elias Wheeler, from New England, who was contacted to measure, document and map the virgin area. He saw potential in the abundant forests and made claims on large land tracts which eventually were sold, or the lumber rights were contracted, to the large companies that came to the area. .
