Mrs. Maechtle of Port Washington Is Laid To Rest
Port Washington -- The funeral of Mrs. Caroline Maechtle,
80, who died at 5 a.m. Friday at the home of her son, Frank, in Town Port Washington,
was held at 1:30 p.m. today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward Runkel, 142
Larabee street and at 2 o'clock at the Grand Avenue Evangelical church. The Revs.
George Nickel and E. Gassmann officated and interment was in the Union cemetery.
Mrs. Maechtle, nee Popa, was born at Hanover, Germany on July 15, 1851. when she
was five years old, she came to this country with her parents. On July 31, 1873,
she was married to Henry Maechtle at the Maechtle homestead in town Saukville. Mr.
Maechtle preceded his wife in death eleven years ago. One daughter, Esther, also
preceded her mother in death.
Those who survive Mrs. Maechtle are seven children: Edward, Milwaukee; John, Franik,
Monroe and Mrs. Charles Liebenstein of Town Port Washington; Walter, who resides
on the homestead in Town Saukville and Mrs. Edward Runkel, Port Washington. She is
also survived by ten grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Chris Head of Milwaukee.
