Frank Thill, Sr.
Frank Thill, Sr., one of the oldest pioneers of this county passed away after an
illness of several months. He was seventy-two years, seven months, and twenty-two
days old when he died.
He was born at Holy Cross, this county, on September 21, 1850 where he lived until
he was twelve years old. At that time, the family moved to a farm in the town of
Port Washington about one mile west of Knellsville. Mr. Thill lived there until
about sixteen years ago when he moved to his recent home.
He spent nearly all of his life on the farm, the place where he has made his home
for the last sixteen years being of several acres.
On July 29, 1878, he was married at St. Mary's church in Port Washington to Miss
Catherine Knepper. The Rev. Father Wilmes officiented at that wedding. Mrs. Thill,
with eight children, are among the survivors.
The children who remain are Mrs. Nic Uselding, of Happy, Texas; Mrs. Frank Hoff and
Mrs. Mike Lenz, of Port Washington; Mrs. Fred Haselow, Mrs. Harry Passage, Mrs. Henry
Bersch, and Mrs. George Tewes, of Milwaukee, and Frank Thill, of Janesville. One
daughter, Mrs. Mike Miller, preceded him in death.
Other survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Kirsch of Argyle, Minnesota;
Mrs. Mary Grelveldinger, of Port Washington; and Mrs. Margaret Hein, of Hurley; twenty
grandchilren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin.
The funeral was held at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning from the St. Mary's church in
this city with burial in the new cemetery, the Rev. Peter Holfeltz officiating.
The pallbearers were Hubert Johannes, Dominc Becker, Peter Wellenstein, Peter Prom,
John Kleckner, and Nicholas Marx.
Friends and relatives who came from a distance to attend the funeral include Mr.
and Mrs. John Hein, of Hurley; Mrs. A. L. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. John May, and Mrs.
Brady, of Fond du Lac; Leo and Adolph Grelveldinger, of Milwaukee; Mike Miller, of
Milwaukee, and his two sons, Eugene and Clayton, from St. Francis.
