INDEX - 1999 & 2008-some pictures contributed by Mary RESCH (Jun 2012)
updated 22 Aug 2012
* YOU WILL FIND THE LOCATION OF THE St. Mary of the Snow-Old Cemetery ON THE TOWN of UNION MAPS PAGE! *
Location: SE Corner SW1/4 Section 11, Town of Union. The old cemetery is located next to the church in the Village of Namur on north side of Highway 57. The stones are grouped together in rows on the east side of the church. The cemetery is maintained in good condition by St. Francis and St. Mary Parish.
St. Mary of the Snow was the first catholic church built in Namur in 1860, but was destroyed by fire in 1890 and in 1891 a new one was built. The land was donated by Alexander EVRARD.
Indexed June 18, 1977 by Beverly Diefenbach and typed by Sally Treichel, all of the W.S.O.C.S.
Re-indexed 1999 by Susan Havel of P.G.S. using notes written by Gabe DEKEYSER before the cemetery was remodeled and the stones grouped together. "I have put this information in brackets as I can not verify some of it including some additional listings with the note no stone. I am uncertain if these may have been decaying wooden markers. Many of the stones are very worn and some are nearly illegible in 1999." -Sue HAVEL.
Re-typed by Sue HOHNEKE for the PGS Website for continuity: dates= DD MMM YYYY. Bracketed information from 1999 reworked into index, italicized and noted to be from Gabe DEKEYSER's notes.
Mary RESCH took some photos in 2008 and contributed them to the PGS in Jun 2012. They were added to this index in Aug 2012.
