Joint School District #2

(Oakdale/Mizo)

Fulton & Milton Townships, Rock County, Wisconsin

Photographs courtesy of Clark Kidder

Although located on the northwest corner of County M & Newville Road in section 24 of Fulton
Township, the school was officially Joint School District #2 Milton/Fulton Townships. Locals called it Oakdale School, and it was later known as Mizo School because the MIZO farm was across the road from the school. It was in operation from 1845-1961. After it's closing it became a private residence. Recently, due to mold, it was destroyed.
Be sure to read several histories of Oakdale/Mizo School, available here, including an interesting
recollection of the time gypsies came to the school. Also see a 1982 letter written by teacher Anna Jean PLUMB.
Students at Oakdale School; William WOOD, son of Joel and Mary (BREESE) WOOD and ancestor of Clark KIDDER (submitter of these photos), is among the students but has yet to be identified. This photo is from about 1852.
