Rock River School

Milton Township, Rock County, Wisconsin

Information courtesy of Clark Kidder

Rock River School was located at the north side of the intersection of Hwy. 59 and Clear Lake Rd. in
Milton Township. I grew up on the farm adjoining it. My grandfather, Earl Dane KIDDER, gifted an acre of land to the school for use as a ball diamond. I remember the auction that was held when the school closed. I attended with my grandfather, Earl. There was a pet Mina bird in a cage at the auction that talked. It said, "Farmers... watch your pocketbooks." A friend that attended the school, Orville TITUS, once told me that the roof had caught fire one year, and until the school could be rebuilt, classes were held in the front parlor of the farmhouse across the road. I believe the Wayne HEMENWEAY family owned it at the time. They did when I was a boy. Mrs. MONAGHAN was the teacher there for about 40 years. [More to follow regarding Mrs. MONAGHAN soon.]
