Meteor - Flourishes, Then Fades

from the book, "White Pines & White Tails"
by Leighton D. Morris, Co. Superintendent of Schools, 1957

During the period of 1890 to 1910, the population in the Town of Meteor was based on the lumberjacks who worked in the area.  They lived in temporary homes which were deserted after the timber ran out.  The railroad was removed about 1910.

The village called Meteor was located in the vicinity of the school which is today known as the Meteor School.  A general store, post office, saloon, and rooming house operated as services to the lumbermen.  A large log-landing was located near the railroad tracks.
