William Stolte, Sr. This man was one of the most prominent businessmen of his time in the city of Reedsburg, and his name is intimately associated with its civic, financial, educational and religious life for a period of nearly fifty years. His first Reedsburg adventure was a partnership with D. Schweke in the mercantile business, which continued until 1869, when his associate died. Mr. Stolte continued the business until 1887. He built the hotel later known as the Hotel Stolte (now Hotel Huntley) after the destruction of the Mansion House by fire, on the site of that ancient hostelry. His son Edward G. Stolte managed it until his death in 1914.
