Excelsior:

William J. Gemmill, farmer, Sec. 16; P.O. Reedsburg; son of William and Frances (Blaine) Gemmill; was born in Hopewell, York Co., Penn., Oct. 16, 1828; went with his parents to Indiana when 7 years of age, where he lived till 1853, when he went to California; after spending three years in the gold regions of that State, he returned to Indiana. He was married, Feb. 17, 1856, to Miss C. E. Cass, daughter of J. B. and Augusta (Chaffee) Cass; the same year, they moved to Baraboo, Wis.; in the following year he purchased and took possession of his present farm of 240 acres, situated on Sec. 16, Excelsior. Mr. Gemmill has been Supervisor of his town two years; Treasurer four years, and Justice of the Peace; he has just received the appointment of enumerator of the census of 1880, for his town; has four children- Ambrose J., Emmett J., William and Walter. Mr. and Mrs. G. are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Politically, Mr. G. is a Republican.
