The angel of death has again been in our midst and taken to a better home, one of our young girls, Miss Sophie Dorothy Bergan, of Lessor.

She died Thursday, April 11, at her home, after an illness of two weeks.  She was well known throughout the southern part of this county, as she had been one of our foremost teachers of our schools for close on to six years.  She was popular and always made many friends, as she was of a sunny disposition and by her scholars she was held in deep love and respect.  This funeral was held Monday, the 15th, at the Norwegian Lutheran Church, Rev. A. Peterson, officiating, amidst a large gathering of friends and relatives, who wished to pay the last honor.  But the worst snowstorm of the season prevented those from afar attending, as many from Hartland, Galesburg and Landstad was unable to get to church on account of the storm and had to return home.  The high esteem of her friends and associates was manifested by the large wreaths of flowers sent by the Alumni and students of Scandinavia Academy of which she had been a student, and from scholars of Welhaven School and from relatives so the beautiful casket was covered with lovely flowers.

She was 25 years old and leaves a grief-stricken mother, four sisters and three brothers to mourn the loss of a dutiful daughter and loving sister.  She was laid to rest beside her father, P.A. Bergan, who died two years ago, and her little sister some years ago.
