Dies of Cancer

Carl Buettner, a well know citizen of the town of Richmond died last Thursday, June 27th, death being due to cancer.  Her was born in Germany, April 5, 1844 and was 53 years, 2 months and 22 days of age at the time of his death.  Mr. Buettner was married to Augusta Reinhardt in 1869 in Rock County and moved to this county in1870.

He leaves nine children, five girls and four boys, two sisters (one in Dakota and one in Germany) and one brother in Germany, his brother August of the Town of Richmond and his brother Julius of the Town of Pella.

The funeral services were Sunday, conducted by Rev. F.F. Selle.

Buettner, Carl, the well known resident of Town Richmond, passed away last Thursday afternoon, 27 June, of cancer after suffering terribly for a month.

Carl Buettner was born on 5 April 1844 in Naugard in Pommern, Germany, bringing his age to 63 year, 2 months and 22 days.  In the year of 1867 he came to the United States settling first in Rock County where he married Augusta Reinhardt on 12 September 1869.  They came to Shawano in 1870 where he remained until he died.  He was one of the oldest settlers of Town Richmond and was known in the entire county because of his character and appreciative ways.  The large group attending his funeral at St. Jakobi Church n Town Richmond was a testimony to their great respect.  Pastor F.F. Selle officiated.

Besides the grieving widow, Carl Buettner left five daughters: Mrs. Emile Ainsworth in Shawano, Mrs. Emma Kroll, Mrs. Lena Ragges, Martha Buettner in Oshkosh and Clara Buettner living in Town Richmond.  There were four sons: Carl in Oshkosh, Alwin, Albert, and Bernhard living in Richmond, besides an aged mother over 90 years old, two sisters, one in Dakota and one living in Germany, and three brothers, Albert in Germany, August in Richmond and Julius in Pella.  Wilhelm, Albert and August Teetzen, August Sr. and Jr. and Wilhelm Barfknecht, Sr. were the pallbearers.
