Hartman, Sofie (Steinert) closed her tired eyes for eternity last Wednesday, about five o’clock in the morning.  About a week before, she suffered with pneumonia and because of her age, there was little hope of her recovery.

Sophie Steinert was born 18 Nov. 1833 in the area of the village of Soemmeritz in Sachsen-Allenburg, and reached the age of seventy-four years and twenty-two days,  In the beginning of 1850 she came to America and settled in town Farmington, Sheboygan County.  After a few years she married Jakob Hartman, who was living in Silver Creek, and came with him to Shawano County in 1874 and settled first in Town Washington.  Later in 1890 she moved to the city of Shawano.  Her husband preceded her in death in 1879.  His last days were spent by her son, Anton.

She leaves many grandchildren, four daughters and two sons, namely Mrs. Margarete Bibelhausen in Town Wescott, Mathilda Retzer in Random Lake, Emma Raasch and Ida Christianson living in Milwaukee, John and Anton Hartman, residents of this city.  The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon at two o’clock at the house, from there to St. Jakobi Church and then to the city cemetery
