Marian E. Hoffman, 96, Shawano, passed away on Thursday morning, May 17, 2012, at St Mary's Hospital in Green Bay, following a brief illness.
Marian was born Nov. 28, 1915, in Marinette, Wis., a daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Jopek) Wos.
She attended schools in Lena, Wis. Following school she worked as a residential caretaker near Kelly Lake.
On June 15, 1937, Marian was united in marriage to James V. Hoffman at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spruce, Wis.
Following their marriage, the couple lived on the Hoffman family homestead. They later moved to Gillett and in 1940 the couple moved to Clintonville. They stayed in Clintonville until the fall of 1943, when they moved to Beverly Gardens in Brown County, where they lived for 11 months. Her husband then took a job running the cheese CO-OP in Stangelville, Wis., where they lived for 15 years. In 1959, the couple moved to Shawano and purchased the Four Corners Cheese Factory near Pella. Marian assisted her husband at the cheese factory as well as raised her children. Her husband James retired from cheese making in 1971 and in 1972, the couple moved to the city of Shawano. Her husband James V. Hoffman Sr. preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 2007.
Marian was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. She loved to cook and bake. She was also an avid reader. Marian loved to go visit family and friends.
Other than spending time with her family, Marian absolutely loved to dance with her husband, Jim.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, James Jr. and Richard (Dianne) Hoffman, both of Green Bay; Ronald (Sharon), Jean (Curt) Kupper, Roger (Kathleen), Carl (LuAnn) and Ken (Sallijo) Hoffman, all of Shawano; 19 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 27 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews.
Marian is further survived by five sisters-in-law, Rosalie Hoffman, May Weier, Marlene Rosner, Rena Hoffman and Irene Wos; three brothers-in-law, Alfred Hoffman, Eugene Hoffman and Marvin Rosner.
Marian was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Schmitt, Margaret Swaer and Josephine Pawlak; one brother, Roman Wos; a daughter-in-law, Janet Hoffman; her brothers-in-law, Arnold "Smoky" Schmitt, Norbert Swaer, John Pawlak, Leo Hoffman, Elger Hoffman, Elwyn Stodola and Hank Weier. her sisters-in-law, Emma Stodola, Dorothy Hoffman and Helen Hoffman.
A funeral Mass for Marian Hoffman will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 22 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Father Len Evers will be the Celebrant. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Relatives and friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the hour of Mass.
The family has requested that memorials in her name be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic School in lieu of flowers and plants.
