Death of Mrs. Hughes
Mrs. J. V. Hughes, wife of Rev. J. V. Hughes, died on Friday of last week, aged 45 years. A gloom was cast over the entire community by the news of this sad death. Although expected for some time it was a sad blow to all. Her life had held by a thread for many days, still hope was not abandoned until the very last moment, and when it was finally announced that she had crossed the dark river of death the news came like a shock which could barely be believed. Mrs. Hughes was in the prime of life, and up to within a few weeks of her death enjoyed the most perfect health. A through Christian woman, she identified herself with every work of good, and in her death the church loses one of its most earnest workers. The most heartfelt sympathy is felt for her sorrowing family. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. J.M. Wolverton, and was attended by an immense concourse of people.
