Shawano County Journal

4 Feb 1887

THOMAS WALLACE, a teamster for Hill and Dodge, was accidentally killed on Friday afternoon of last week while hauling logs to the landing. The top log of the load on which he sat became disengaged from its fastening in some manner and slipped out, throwing him to the ground. Wallace fell just underneath the log and was struck across the shoulders and pinned to the ground as if in a vice. The force of the blow killed him instantly. The body, cold and stiff in death, was found a short time afterward by another teamster, and taken to camp, Saturday his remains were brought to Shawano and taken through to Stephensville, his home, for burial. Wallace was a young man, and had no family.
