Real Fried Cakes
This recipe is from my great grandmother's cookbook (handed down to her granddaughter, Phyllis Dorothy Wilson Purdy, who has handed it to me. My great grandmother is Jennie Mae Halstead Colby.
3/4 cup sugar 2 eggs 3 tablespoons shortening 1 teaspoon soda pinch salt 3 cups flour mixed with 3 level teaspoons baking powder 1 cup sour milk Add more flour if needed to roll out soft, fry in clear lard or vegetable oil.
