WEST BLOOMFIELD BAND

The West Bloomfield Band was started by a teacher, William Wegener in the fall of 1887 as a church affiliated band. There were twenty members, each paid seventeen dollars to belong. They played for various church festivals and different occasions, not only in West Bloomfield, but also in other communities.

According to A. R. Dierks, a parochial school teacher from 1921 to 1943, the following were the Charter members of the band: William Wegener, John Koehler, Herman Koehler, August Boelter, Frank Wendt, Louie Timm, Gus Kopitzke, Herman Koop, William Kopitzke, Fred Kopitzke, Reinhard Krause, Fred Thews, Richard Fischer, Albert Pagel, Fred Pagel, Albert Radichel, Edwin Wolff, William Mundinger, G. W. Baehman and Fred Maldevin.

On September 5, 1937 the 50th Anniversary of the band was held at Christ Lutheran Church in West Bloomfield. The celebration was on the church grounds and began in the early afternoon. William Wegener, who was the organizer, was there and took the baton to lead the present band, one last time.

Edwin Robbert was the second in length of years, being a trombonist since 1930.
