Solomon's name was actually Johann. He went by his second name, as many German men did. He was born on January 1, 1830, at Magstadt, Wurttemberg, Germany, to Jakob Friedrich Mundinger and Rosina Reisser. Solomon was baptized Lutheran on January 3, 1830. He immigrated to the United States from Germany at a young age, but he was not yet married. Solomon emigrated from New York to Boston to Illinois to Wisconsin on April 1, 1852. He purchased farm land in Thornton Township, Cook County, Illinois in 1854 and 1855. Solomon Mundinger was united in marriage with Julianna Margaret Abraham at West Bloomfield, Wisconsin, in 1857. She was born on December 6, 1839, at Kreis Schubben, Prussia, Germany, the daughter of Martin Abraham and Louise Puhl, residents of the city, buried at the Old German Cemetery.
Solomon was an early settler of the area, as were his in-laws. They started a family, and farmed the area until death. Solomon died on January 16, 1886, at the age of 56. He also was laid to rest at the Old German Cemetery, where his beloved wife would one day join him. Julianna remarried to Johann Gottlieb Sackschiewski in 1887. She later died of breast cancer on July 12, 1909. When she died, she left the farm to two of her sons, along with her second husband. The sons were William and Henry Mundinger. William "Willy" farmed across the road, but he also took charge of the family farm. After four years, he grew tired of all the work, so Henry gave up his teaching job to work the farm. The stepfather was to live on the farm until his death, and Henry couldn't sell until then, nor could he find a renter. After Henry's eldest son, Walter, married, he decided that he wanted the farm, so he bought it from his father and uncle and kept the stepfather. Solomon had bought the land from the "Indians" for $1.00 per acre. The stepfather died on April 19, 1930, and was also to find peace at the Old German Cemetery in Waushara County. Walter died about five years later, at age 36, and the farm was then sold to someone other than family. Solomon and Julianna had a family of nine children.
Much of this information came from Henry's youngest daughter Adelhaid (Mundinger) Naumann, Jason's great-grandmother. She passed away on July 4, 2000.
