CHAUNCY HERBERT PHELPS

Chauncy Herbert Phelps was born at Richford, Waushara Co., Wis., July 24, 1857. Most of his life was spent in the town of Coloma. For some time he has been a sufferer with consumption from which disease her died on July 2, 1916, at his home at Coloma Corners. Near relatives left to mourn are an aged mother, Mrs. Harvey, and two sisters: Mrs. Chas. Carpenter, of Green Bay and Mrs. Geo. Twist, of Colburn. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Corners Church, Rev. Cook preaching, after which interment was made in the cemetery on the hill.

Rosetta Pierce d Sept 4, 1886------Maine 17 Sep 1886

Mrs Pierce was born in Kennebec, Maine, Feb 11, 1820 and was consequently in the 67th year of age. Three weeks before her death she had a slight touch of paralysis and realized that it was her last sickness. She expressed a desire to see all her children once more, who were immediately summoned. The children who were absent are as follows: Lafayette, her youngest son, whose home is in Woonsocket, D>T>< Mrs Wm Lytle, Merrill, Wis, Mrs Chas F Chamberlain, Duluth, Minn, and Miss Mattie Pierce, Ashland, Wis. They all arrived in due season to bid her a last good by. She has been a resident of Wautoma for the last 25 years and during that time has been a dutiful wife and a fond and loving mother....faithful worker in the church for 35 yrs....She leaves a husband and ten children....

May 14, 1896 Ira Pierce d Sunday Evening (Maine)

At the residence of his son E.L. Pierce, in the western part of the town of Wautoma, last Sunday evening after a short illness, at the advanced age of 86 yrs, 2 months and 14 days. Deceased was born in the state of Maine and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, about 46 years ago where he lived a short time before removing to Waushara County where he has since resided and was numbered among the oldest settlers of the county. Mr Pierce's wife departed from this world about nine years ago and there is still left to mourn his loss, four sons and six daughters who are all grown to manhood and womanhood. The funeral was held Tuesday with the internment to the Webb Cemetery, Rev. F>G> Parish officiating....

Henrietta Pierce

Henrietta Pierce born April 2, 1851 and came west with her parents in early childhood. In 1874 she was married to Cyrus Merryfield. There were born of this marriage six children, four of whom survive her. Mrs Merryfield had been sick for a year and a half, suffering from cancer and passed away Nov 30th. The funeral was largely attended...held in the Webb schoolhouse...services were conducted by Rev J>E> Manning of this village on Friday Last....

Would it be possible to look for an obit for Cyrus Merryfield in Wautoma for me, I have been unable to locate any info on his passing, he died in 1918, he is buried in Moon Cemetery, Moon, WI, but they have nothing on his death, just that he is buried there.

Edward Carl Pomplun, 69, of 309 W. Milwaukee St., retired farm laborer of the Wautoma area, died at 8:35 p.m. Saturday (6/25/1960) in a Madison hospital after a short illness. He resided in Janesville since September 1959.

Born in Richford Township, Waushara County, Sept. 27, 1890, he married Adeline Cannon in Waupaca Nov. 27, 1919. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wautoma.

Surviving are his wife; five sons, Irvin, of Beloit, David and Raymond, both of Janesville, Harvey of Rockford, and Elmer, with the Army at Fort Carson, Colo.: Five daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Zule, Waupaca, Mrs. Bernadine McCallum, Mrs. Doris Bradley and Edith Pomplun, all of Janesville, and Mrs. Alice Lynn, Jefferson: 22 grandchildren: four brothers, Herman, August, Louis and Robert Pomplun, all of Wautoma: one half sister, Mrs. Martha Billington, Racine.

A son, Lester, was killed in service with the Navy on Leyte in October 1944. A grandson and two brothers also preceded him in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Peace Lutheran Church, 1550 S. Osborne Ave., the Rev. Victor H. Prange officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Reining Funeral Home this evening.

A former Plainfield resident, Howard M. Potton, 72, Neilsville, died Sunday in St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.. Mr. Potton was born Aug. 10, 1910, in Plainfield, the son of George T. and Ruth Potton. He married Martha Roberts Aug. 27, 1932 in Belvidere, Ill. He was a machinist for Fairbanks-Marse Co. Of Beloit.

Surviving are his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Dan (Ruth) Clark, Neilsville; three sons, William, Westland, Mich., Dale, Stevens Point, and Larry, River Falls; two sisters, Vivian Weymouth, Plainfield,, and Ruth Broderich, Atlanta, Ga.; and 13 grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Gasperic Funeral Home, Plainfield, with the Rev. Lester Otto officiating. Burial will be in the Plainfield Village Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
