JOHN TRICKIE PASSES AWAY
"Dust thou art and unto dust thou shalt return," says the Good Book, and Wednesday last all that was mortal of John Trickie was interred in the cemetery west of here, the funeral being largely attended that afternoon at the M. E. church, of which Mr. Trickie was a devoted member, his pastor, Rev. E. C. Booth preaching the sermon. He had been in poor health for some time and Monday morning March 9, 1896 succumbed to heart disease and other troubles.
The subject of this notice was a man who prided himself upon his business integrity, ever meaning to be honest in all his dealings with his fellow men. He was engaged for many years in farming. In the fall of 1878 he went to Pine River, where he engaged in the hotel business, but returned to Plainfield and from 1882 till 1887 conducted a livery business here the greater part of the time with Ira P. Coon as partner.
Mr. Trickie was born in Lower Canada, September 2, 1820; at the age of 15 years he came to the United States and March 4, 1843 was married to Miss Rozina Havens, of Ogdensburg, N. Y. To this union were born ten children, four boys and six girls, two dying in infancy, Levi Trickie died Nov. 10, 1890. The seven who survive are Mrs. Geo. Gillett, of Saratoga, Wis., Mrs. F. W. Thompson, of Unity, Wis., Mrs. D. J. Vick, of Mountain Iron, Minn., C. F. Trickie, of Northfield, Minn., Mrs. J. Wilson, Mrs. C. F. Youngman and Alonzo Trickie, of Plainfield. In May 1863, they came to Plainfield, where Mrs. Trickie's death occurred Feb. 21, 1865. July 5, 1866 Mr. Trickie was united in marriage to Mrs. Polly Gillett, who preceded him to the other world December 23, 1894. Since 1863 he has had a continued residence here except six years spent in Minnesota and a short time at Pine River, thus by his death Plainfield has lost one of its upright citizens and old residents.
