Arthur DesBOUILLON Biography
Written by Marcia Ann Kuehl

FORTIETH (157th, 158th, and 160th Infantry; 143rd, 144th and 145th Field Artillery, 115th Engineers.)

California, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona National Guard. "Sunshine Division"

Insignia: Gold sun on blue square.

Depot Division at Revigny and St Dizler, France. Twenty Reno Co, KS men served with this division, mostly in the 160th Infantry.

The fortieth Division trained at Camp Kearney, CA. The division left for overseas service in July 1918. Besides the national guardsmen from the west, the division included draft contingents from Camp Funston, in which were the Reno Co, KS men. After arriving overseas, the Fortieth was used as a depot division with headquarters at Revigny, in the Department of Marne. However many of the men were sent out on detached service, such as taking charge of classification camps and police duty. The Fortieth returned as a "skeleton" division, most of the men returning in casual companies to the nearest home. The Fortieth was demobilized at Camp Kearney, CA in April 1919.

Taken from Reno Response, pg 105-106, 184:

Thanks to the researchers, Kathy Reiger and Shirley Millard, who found the above information and passed it on to me.

Arthur A DesBOUILLON was born in Plevna, Reno Co, KS, the son of Sarah LeBREAUX and Alexander Philip DesBOUILLON. He had 9 siblings: Victoria "Carrie" DESBOUILLON, Octavia Esther DESBOUILLON, Elie "Alexander" F DesBOUILLON, Sarah P DESBOUILLON, Charles Philipp DESBOUILLON, Bryon H. DesBOUILLON, Agatha Agnes DESBOUILLON, Sylvia Nina DESBOUILLON, and Orville DESBOUILLONS.

Shortly after the 1900 Federal Census, his family started to scatter. Three sisters (Victoria "Carrie", Octavia Esther, amd Agatha Agnes) married Kansans (COLLIER, BURKE, and LAVIELLE respectively) in Hutchinson, Reno Co, KS and remained in the local area. One was married to the brother of Ernest V LaVIELLE, who served with Arthur in the same unit. His youngest brother, Orville, who died as an infant, is buried in the Plevna City Cemetery, Plevna, Reno Co, KS. Another brother, Elie "Alexander" F DesBOUILLON, eventually settled in Oregon. The remainder of the family, Sarah, Charles, Bryon, and Sylvia moved to Wisconsin and settled there, excepting Sylvia (who married John CLAUSON and moved to California).

Arthur married Lena VanTassel in 1918, in Adams Co WI. They had one child, Mars before Lena divorced him for desertion in 1919.

Arthur joined the Reno Division, and left for overseas in 1919. He served honorable and was discharged upon his return to the United States.

Arthur lived in Wisconsin until his death in the early 1940s. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Juneau County, WI, with his brother Charles Philip DesBOUILLON and his brother's second wife Gladys PEARSON DesBOUILLON. His father Alexander Philip DesBOUILLON is buried in Searles Cemetery which is nearby in Juneau County, WI.

His brother, Charles Philip DesBOUILLON married Faye Emalang MILLION, and had four children, Delia, Neva, MavisAnn and Glenn. MavisAnn married Raymond C KUEHL Sr, and had seven children: Harvey Duncan, Jerry LeRoy, Raymond Claude, Charles Philip, Marcia Ann, Randy Reagan, and Melissa Yvette.
